Agency Announcements

Mark Driscol announced that coming up on October 13th from 9-2 there will be a “Disabilities Expo” at Lincoln Square Mall in Urbana, Illinois. There will be multiple displays of services available in our community for people with disabilities.

Christy Lee announced that the Downs Syndrome Network’s annual “Buddy Walk” will be held this year at Crystal Lake Park in Urbana on September 15th.

Old Business

The council voted on the appointment of the parent co-chair and the professional co-chair; Christy Lee was re-elected parent co-chair and Felicia Gooler was re-elected professional co-chair, with the condition that the meeting time would need to change. The council approved changing the meeting date and time to the 2nd Thursday of the month from 11:45-12:45. All council members present approved the vote, no one opposed.

Becci Cline reported for Child and Family Connections. She distributed statistics for Champaign County. Upcoming training opportunities were distributed.

The council reviewed last year’s spending report and discussed possibilities for this year’s budget. The council decided to allocate approximately $600.00 for a provider recruitment function; $316.00 for the next to quarters of a publication in Central Illinois Families; $120.00 for postage; $250.00 for parent co-chair stipend; $35.00 for flyers translated into Spanish; $300.00 for family stipends to attend conferences;$1120.00 for web maintenance and the balance to buy more binders and possibly advertise on the local mass transit buses.

New Business:

The council reviewed last year’s accomplishments and talked about this year’s prospective goals. Provider recruitment will be a main focus this year.

Next Meeting

The next meeting is scheduled for September 13, 2007 from 11:45-12:45 at Mental Health Center of Champaign County at 1801 Fox Dr. in Champaign.
