New Business:

Hollie Ronk distributed a review of the Council’s 2005-2006 accomplishments.

The council decided to narrow their goals this year in order to concentrate on accomplishing more. The council will identify one goal at a time, and add more goals as previous goals are accomplished. The first goal the council identified is to create a comprehensive screening process for children birth to 5 in Champaign County. Carol Carlton agreed to find out the following information:

  1. How many children ages 0-5 are in Champaign County
  2. What percent of these children are in childcare
  3. How many childcare facilities administer regular developmental screenings

The council will distribute the following survey to community agencies that serve children in our target population:

  1. Do you currently complete a developmental screening for the children you serve?

IF you answered yes to #1, please answer the following:

    • What screening tool do you use?
    • Where do you perform your developmental screenings?
    • Do you provide follow-up after a developmental screenings?
    • Approximately, how many children did your organization screen last year?
    • Are you reporting your screenings and to who?
  1. What are the barriers you have encountered with developmental screenings?

The council agreed that they would gather the information for the October meeting and have an informational breakfast with key community members invited for November.

The council was presented with a check in the amount of $200.00 from the Kiwanis Club.
