MinutesMarch 16, 2006AttendanceBecci Cline (CFC), Felicia Gooler (DSC), Katie Good (Spectrum), Brandi Granse (Head Start), Shay Henderson (CFC), Amy Kuka (SWANN School), Christy Lee (Parent Co-chair), Angela Reinhart (U of I), Sarah Schuneman (United Way), Susan Sullivan (Uof I), Mary Anne Wilson (United Way), Marcia Zumbahlen, Hollie Ronk (LIC Coordinator) Agency AnnouncementsBrandi Granse announced that Head Start and Early Head Start of Champaign County will begin enrolling in April. She will bring program brochures and applications to the April meeting. Marcia Zumbahlen said that the agency she is working with, Strengthening Families through early care and education Illinois would be willing to come and present to the council on the their mission and purpose. Mary Anne Wilson said there will be a full page ad in the “Help Book” presented by the United Way and distributed through the News Gazette for Child Find’s “Look What I can Do” campaign. Becci Cline from Child and Family Connections announced that CFC will be hosting two workshops with Developmental Pediatrician, Dr. Morgan. Felicia Gooler reported on the College of Education Forum that was held February 25th. She reported that it focused on the pre-school for all announcement made by Governor Blagojevich. Lillian Katz presented. The forum did not really focus much on children with disabilities. The council members reported that Read Across America went well; over 800 children attended. Becci Cline requested that the council come up with a list of child find screenings that will be held in Champaign County coming up within the next three months. Old BusinessMinutes from February were approved. Becci Cline motioned for approval; Brandi Granse seconded. Becci Cline distributed statistics on referrals for the month of February; referrals are down a little from last month, but not a lot. She also reported that she has had several conversations with the new Developmental Pediatrician at Carle Clinic and feels that he is going to be an excellent advocate foe Early Intervention. Felicia Gooler and Marcia Zumbahlen will contact Jeanne Murray to arrange for trainers to come and present to the council on a quarterly basis. Christy Lee said she will pull together with the Public Awareness Committee to try and come up with a survey for parents to be distributed in the fall of 2006. New Business:Grant Writing Workshop: Angela Reinhart reported that there is already a state agency that has a workshop that is about 2 hours long, that provides training on writing a grant. She suggested that we contact them and arrange for them to hold training in the Champaign area. Angela Reinhart and Mary Anne Wilson will get together with Mary-alayne to coordinate this effort. Social Emotional Resource Task Force- This task force is looking at the quality in childcare and has determined that there is a need in this area for training child care providers in social emotional (behavioral ) strategies. They are trying to identify gaps in services so that these gaps can be filled. They will put together a list of providers that provide social /emotional support to children in our area. Next MeetingThe next meeting is scheduled for April 20, 2006 from 8:45-9:45 at Mental Health Center of Champaign County at 1801 Fox Dr. in Champaign. AdjournmentMeeting Adjourned.
