Several community programs had representatives there to explain their program options. Old BusinessMinutes from December were approved. Ruth Meyers-Dunnum motioned for approval; Becci Cline seconded. Becci Cline distributed statistics on referrals for the month of January; once again referrals are up. The Council also talked about the referral sources in Champaign County. Currently the top referral sources in Champaign County are Carle Therapy Services, Public Health, Developmental Services Center and private family members. There is a new pediatrician at Carle that specializes as a Developmental Pediatrician. The Council is hoping that this will become a major referral source. Becci also reported that Roberta Cundiff is no longer the social/emotional consultant; they will be looking to replace her. She is still working for Cross Point, but is now in a different position. Mary-alayne Hughes discussed the College of Education Forum coming up on February 25 th. The Birth to 5 Council is a co-sponsor of the event. We will have a table set up there with information, our Council display board, stickers and magnets. Felicia Gooler volunteered to bring the materials; after the event, she will pass the materials to Becci Cline. The forum was designed as a way to share information with the public on different services available in our community for children with disabilities. Read Across America is coming up on March 4, 2006. We will have our Council display board there. Becci Cline volunteered to bring the materials and help set it up. Ruth Myers-Dunnum, Connie Brown, Lisa Ellis, Christy Lee, and Judy Hartley have volunteered to “man” the table for specified periods of time. Mary-alayne Hughes will assist with clean-up and collect the Council materials at the end of the event. Our activity will be helping the children to make a bookmark with their name in Braille. The Council approved spending up to $500.00 to purchase materials needed for the activity. We will explore different sources to have the printing completed. Christy Lee reported that she had no response from area support groups regarding the informational meeting that the Birth to 5 Council wanted to hold. The Council decided to change gears and try to attend different area support group meetings to receive feedback from families participating in the early intervention program. Another possibility would be to send out surveys to families that are currently enrolled in EI. We will continue this discussion at the next meeting. An updated strategic plan was distributed to all members present. Next MeetingThe next meeting is scheduled for March 16, 2006 from 8:45-9:45 at Mental Health Center of Champaign County at 1801 Fox Dr. in Champaign. AdjournmentMeeting Adjourned.
