Presentation

Sarajane Annin from Developmental Services Center presented on the new Family Resource Library that DSC has to offer residents of Champaign County. The library has between 300-400 resource materials that can be either checked out or viewed right on site for any family that is a resident of Champaign County. DSC has combined their resources along with the Autism Network and Downs Syndrome Network to compile a wide array of resources in the library ranging from early childhood to adolescence. There are written materials, audio/video materials as well as pre-literacy kits available. The materials can be checked out for a period of one month. These materials are available to families as well as professionals. The resource library is open during regular business hours. They will be adding an Internet access computer for families to use as a resource as well.

Agency Announcements

Mary Anne Wilson distributed a flyer on the upcoming forum discussing No Child Left Behind.

Cheri Adams distributed informational flyers and highlighters.

Angela Reinhart shared information regarding a four series Parenting class starting in February on Tuesdays from 6:30-8:30.

Mary-alayne Hughes announced that the Stay N Play playgroup is now full and said she appreciated everyone’s help with recruitment.

Old Business

Minutes from December were approved. Mary Anne Wilson motioned for approval, Ruth Meyers-Dununm seconded.

Becci Cline distributed statistics on referrals for the month of December. She reported that referrals are still up, with 28 referrals for the month of November and 23 for December. She also reported that some changes that will be coming: Developmental Therapists will no longer be required to bill insurance and get a denial before billing the state. Also, Illinois’ early intervention system will be doing a parent satisfaction” survey. It will be coming out in April or June.

Mary-alyne Hughes discussed the College of Education Forum coming up on February 25 th. More information will be coming in an email with a flyer as an attachment; please disseminate when you receive it.

Christy Lee said that she has not had a lot of response about the parent meeting. She will make some additional contacts to solicit more feedback, and then let us know by email whether we should go ahead with the Feb. 4 event. If we cancel it, then we’ll have further discussion about how to proceed at our February meeting.

Read Across America is coming up on March 4, 2006. We have sent our registration in and are still in need of council members to distribute information at the event. So far Connie Brown and Ruth Meyers-Dunnum have signed up to work from 10-12 and Roberta Cundiff said she could work from 12-2. Becci Cline can help set up the booth and Judy Hartley can help out from 1-2 pm. We also generated some ideas for the “activity” part of the booth, and will continue this discussion at our February meeting.

The council decided to change the member contact list on the website to agency participation with a direct link to each participating agency’s web site. In addition, Sue Sullivan is working hard to keep the website updated (including the calendar & links). Mary-alayne asked council members to share the website address with their colleagues, as it is a good resource for information.

We briefly discussed the Council’s strategic plan. The Public Awareness committee gave their plan to Hollie; Becci Cline indicated that she would follow-up with Julie Grygiel about the Child Find & Transition Committee’s plan; Felicia Gooler said she would check with Amy Santos about the Provider Recruitment Committee plan; and Hollie indicated that she would contact Jeanne Murray about the Ad Hoc Training Committee plan. All agreed to send their committee plans to Hollie so that she can finalize it into one document for our use this year. We’ll also put this on the February agenda for discussion & closure.
