A monthly newsletter from the library will be available upon request. It will be mailed out monthly. Mary-alayne Hughes announced an upcoming Parent/Child playgroup being offered for 8 weeks to help better facilitate interactions between parent and child. There are still spots available for parents with children (with and without disabilities) from 6 months to 30 months. Contact Mary-alayne if you would like brochures or flyers about the playgroup. Old BusinessMinutes from November were approved. Mary Anne Wilson motioned for approval, Cheri Adams seconded. Roberta Cundiff (in place of Becci Cline) passed out statistics on referrals for the month of November. Reported that referrals were back up, there were 28 referral for the month of November. Roberta also distributed flyers regarding up coming training events. These included trainings on, cued speech, autism, assessment and the picture exchange system. New BusinessMaryAnne Wilson reported on an upcoming community event titled, “Early Childhood in Illinois: At the Crossroads.” It is an open forum, which will discuss how statewide initiatives have impacted Early Childhood Programs throughout the state. The group putting on this event, University of Illinois College of Education, would like the Champaign Birth to 5 Council to co-sponsor this event by spreading the word through the different organizations represented on the Council. Mary-alayne will contact Dianne Rothenberg to go ahead with this co-sponsorship. Christie Lee updated the Council on progress that has been made in organizing the Parent Support Group meeting that the Birth to 5 Council is trying to organize. The Urbana Free Library is reserved for free to hold the event. The meeting will be from 1- pm. The date will be either February 4 or February 11, 2006. We will invite four representatives from each of the following support groups: Autism Support Group, Down Syndrome Network and PROUDD. In Addition, Shay Henderson, the parent liaison for CFC #16, will be inviting some parents that she works with. A sign up sheet will be distributed at the January meeting for Council members to sign up to attend and help with this event. There also was a short discussion about the Council’s participation in the Read Across America event on March 4, 2006 at Lincoln Square Mall. Becci Cline and Sue Sullivan have put together some ideas for this event, and a sign-up sheet will be distributed at the January meeting for Council members to sign up to help with this event. There was a short discussion of the Council’s strategic plan. Hollie will email the various committee co-chairs in January for their plan, and she will pull the information together into one planning form for the January Council meeting. Next MeetingThe next meeting is scheduled for January 19, 2006 from 8:45-9:45 at Mental Health of Champaign County at 1801 Fox Dr. Sarajane Annin from DSC will come and present on the new Family Resource Center at Developmental Services Center.
