Agency Announcements

Mary Anne Wilson passed around several fliers with information about events going on in the area including:

  • ECIAEYC Fall Membership Meeting and Training Thursday October 7, 2004 from 7:00pm-8:30pm at Champaign Public Library (505 S. Randolph, Champaign). This year's Fall membership meeting of the East Central Association for the Education of Young Children (ECIAEYC) will feature Project Coordinator for the Center on Social Emotional Foundations for Early learning, Tweety Yates, who will present: Helping Children be Successful: Strategies for Supporting Children's Social and Emotional Development. Registration Deadline is October 6, 2004 to register contact CCRS @ 217-333-3252.
  • National CPS (Child Passenger Safety) Technician Certification Training Program on October 2-3, 2004 and October 9-10, 2004 in the Bloomington area the cost is $60.00 register deadline is September 29, 2004 and the course ID is IL20040722556. It is a four day training program to learn about injury prevention, car sear effectiveness, appropriate child safety seat selection, proper installation, conduction a car seat check event.   • Junior League of Champaign-Urbana Community Assistance Fund Application. The purpose of this fund is to respond to the needs of non-profit organizations, specifically for programs and projects related to Junior League of Champaign-Urbana (JLCU position statements. Projects should relate to child welfare, effective parenting, volunteerism, women's opportunities, development of the arts, elimination of domestic violence, opportunities for citizens with disabilities and senior citizens, protection of the environment or public health issues. Priority is given to funding direct service projects and grants are typically limited to $500. All applications must be returned by October 15, 2004.   • Family Service Self Help Center Fall Conference "The Strength in Us" Saturday October 23, 2004 at The Forum at Carle in Urbana from 9:00am-4:30pm. Keynote speaker is Margaret Dubay Mikus, Ph.D. There will be breakout sessions on reaching prospective members, group diversity, conflict resolution, guided imagery and more. Skill development workshops on listening skills, facilitation, life mapping, online communication, use of Crystal Lake Park labyrinth and more. 7 CEU credits available for social work and allied health professionals through Department of Family Medicine, UIUC.   • Becci Cline discussed the Parent Liaison Position who would report to the CFC program manager and the position is full time. Under minimal supervision this position will develop parent groups in six county areas, work individually with families referred by case coordinators who are having difficulty with EI system and or dealing with child's disability. This position will also assist the Administrative Assistant with general office duties. Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, aren't of a child with special needs, experience and/or a formal training in word processing and data processing
  • Amy Santos discussed the Yes I Can International Awards Program. Three Yes I Can International Award Nominees will be recognized in each of the nine categories (academics, arts, athletics, community service, employment, extracurricular activities, independent living skills, self advocacy and technology). Nominees must be 2-21 yes of age be nominated in one category by two different people. Send nomination forms by December 20, 2003.   • Amy Santos also made an announcement that their EI training grant was approved. This will allow qualified individuals to receive their Masters with an emphasis on EI. More information to follow.

Old Business

  • Mary Anne Wilson noted corrections about the grant through United Way on the minutes from August 19, 2004 minutes. It was noted that pre-approval is required to participate and that not everyone is invited but rather it is limited to 50 people.
  • Mark Driscoll moves to approve the amended minutes and Jeanne Murray seconds. Minutes were approved unanimously.
  • Formation of Committees- Amy Santos went over the Champaign County Birth to 5 Council goals and objectives and the members then broke up into the four different committees (Child Find and Transition, Provider Recruitment, Public Awareness and the Training Planning Group) to come up with goals and objectives for each. They each then presented their goals and objectives to the rest of the council. A copy of the completed plan will be distributed to the council at the next meeting.

New Business

  • Amy Santos discussed the listserv. Anything the committee want to send out to all the members of the council (except you can not send attachments) needs to just type in the listserv address (CCB5-L@listserv.uiuc.edu). It is a free service and if there are individuals, who desire to be on it and are currently not, just let Amy Santos knows and she can get them added on to it.
  • Amy Santos discussed the LIC coordinator Search. There are three people who have interest in the position and hopefully by next meeting one will be chosen after interviews.
  • If there are any concerns with the budget let Amy Santos or Sarajane Annin know about them. They plan to have the new budget outline completed to vote on at the next meeting.
  • Jeanne Murray expressed concerns about the equipment loan phone number that is on the web site is not correct. She also brought in referral forms to be faxed and is available on the web sit. She passed out along with them current stats reflecting August screenings.

Next Meeting

October 21, 2004 from 8:30am - 9:45am at The Forum (building northeast of Carle hospital) 

Pay parking is available in the parking deck south of the building... OR FREE parking is available at the fairgrounds---just park--- wait at a shuttle stop (there are 4) and take the shuttle to the Carle main campus.  The shuttle lets you out at the circle drive on the east side of the hospital---the Forum is on the north end of this circle drive.
